Last year, a two-kilometre section of railings around the West Lake was replaced. Tay Ho District also set up a lighting system and renovated the pavement along the lake.

The railings around the West Lake have become deteriorated
However, many other sections have deteriorated, mostly fence ornamentation concentrated on sections running along Ve Ho, Quang Khanh and Nhat Chieu streets.
While water damage could be to blame, local residents claim some of the ornamentation vanished while Covid-19 pandemic social distancing was implemented and suspect they were stolen.
A representative from the Tay Ho District People’s Committee, local authorities have instructed concerned agencies to replace the degraded railing sections around the West Lake. This is scheduled to be completed this year.
West Lake in Tay Ho District is the biggest natural lake in Hanoi, covering a total area of 500 hectares.
