Many streets in Hanoi have faced serious traffic jams since Thursday afternoon, one day before the four-day National Day holiday.

Thang Long Avenue saw a long line of vehicles waiting at the two T-junctions running to Pham Hung and Le Quang Dao streets at noon on August 31.

The traffic jams extended over a kilometre. Many drivers had to stand still for more than 15 minutes under the hot weather.

Some drivers decided to go on the pavement to get out of the congestion.

The Belt Road 3 also saw serious congestion with long lines of vehicles moving slowly.
