
The scene of the accident
According to the Phu Yen Police Department, the accident occurred at 9 am when a truck which was carrying watermelons, was running down a slope on Road DT643 in Tuy An District. It suddenly crashed into a mountain on the opposite side of the road and overturned.
Seeing the accident, some nearby people managed to help six people get out of the truck and brought them to Phu Yen Provincial General Hospital, but one of them died shortly after of serious injuries. Police also found three others dead in the truck's cabin.
Director of Phu Yen General Hospital, Doctor Tran Anh Dung said that five of the victims had suffered serious injuries, leaving one in critical condition. They were all receiving intensive treatment.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Road DT643 Road runs over 30 kilometres, connecting Tuy An and Son Hoa districts. The road has deteriorated and has posed persistent risks of traffic accidents.
