A foreign vessel drifts into Quang Ngai waters on January 4.
At midday on January 4, border guard forces and the Quang Ngai maritime port authority inspected a vessel that had run aground about 30 metres from the coast of Van Tuong commune.
The ship, painted blue and white, bore Chinese characters and the number 08888 on its hull. Authorities confirmed that no crew members were on board.
Relevant agencies in Quang Ngai are coordinating efforts to examine the vessel to determine its origin and the cause of its drifting at sea.
In previous years, a number of foreign objects and fishing boats have drifted into Quang Ngai waters. Most recently, in November 2024, an object resembling a maritime buoy with Chinese writing was found floating in waters off the southern part of the province.
Around the same period, local fishermen also discovered a Chinese wooden fishing vessel drifting near Ly Son Island, with no one on board.
