In 2018, three businesses presented 13 electric cars worth over VND 3 billion to transport tourists at the Dong Loc T-junction Relic Site on the 50th Anniversary of Dong Loc Victory. The site management board launched a pilot programme to operate the electric cars for two months.

Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews, Le Thanh Hoan, deputy head of the Dong Loc T-junction Relic Site Management Board, said that the electric car service received good feedback from tourists during the pilot. However, when they were preparing to propose to the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee to operate the service, the Covid-19 pandemic occurred and the site was closed.

"The electric car service has proved very convenient for visitors here, Hoan said. "It doesn't cause pollution nor make noise, which is suitable for this historical site."

"We sent the proposal to the provincial people's committee in April 2022 to launch the paid electric car service in the site when the pandemic was curbed and is still waiting for their approval," he shared.

In the meantime, the board is conducting some repairs and battery changes to the cars before they can be used again.

The Deputy Director of the Provincial Finance Department, Nguyen Quoc Huong, said that they are considering the prices for the service and would urge agencies to launch the service soon.

The Dong Loc T-junction, belonging to Dong Loc Commune in Can Loc District, is a famous historical site where ten young female volunteers died while working on logistics for the transport route linking to the southern front during the American War in 1968.

The ten young female volunteers, aged from 17 to 24, were killed when a bomb exploded in front of a tunnel they were hiding in whilst they were trying to level bomb craters to reopen the intersection.
