Easier entry to Vietnam-Laos border market

Procedures to come to visit a market held along the border with Laos at the Nam Can International Border Gate in the central province of Nghe An province have been simplified.

Procedures to come to visit a market held along the border with Laos at the Nam Can International Border Gate in the central province of Nghe An province have been simplified.

According to Colonel Nguyen Hong Duc, the Border Guard Station Chief at Nam Can International Border Gate, people only need to present their identity card or passport to be granted a market visit card. It was previously compulsory to show passports.

Upon leaving the market, people have to return the card to the border officers.

The markets is opened every Sunday

Opened in 1994, the market mostly sells agricultural products and traditional items from Nghe An Province’s Ky Son District and Xiangkhouang Province’s Nong Het District, Duc added.

There were previously two markets per month, but now the figure has increased to one every Sunday. The market starts at around 4:30 am and ends at 3 pm.

Handicraft products sold at the market.


The first session of the market this year was on January 14, attracting around 2,000 Vietnamese and 1,000 Lao people.
