The People’s Committee of Hanoi along with the Ministry of Transport have approved a plan to repair Duong Bridge.

Repair design of Duong Bridge by Vietnam Railway

A military floating bridge will be used for traffic flow distribution during Duong Bridge's repair. The total approved budget for its repair is nearly VND15 billion ($781,865) and it’s expected to be completed in 60 days.

The floating bridge will be placed 900 metres away from the Duong Bridge.

Vietnam Railway, who takes responsibility of managing Duong Bridge, is also an investor of the project and has said that the railroad structure and road way of the bridge are seriously damaged and it’s not safe for vehicles to travel on, thus, it must be repaired.

According to repair solutions presented by Vietnam Railway, Duong Bridge’s current shape will not be changed.

Tran Phuc Tien, Vice Director of Vietnam Railway said, “The repair should have been carried out before Tet, but the People’s Committee of Hanoi did not agree because they were concerned about traffic flow distribution. If traffic flow distribution was not implemented in a proper manner, traffic would be very dense.”

“As planned, the bridge’s repair will be done in 60 days and its finishing will be completed before the 1,000 anniversary of Thang Long (Hanoi). However, the plan will depend on building a floating bridge by the Vietnam People’s Army Sapper Service and traffic flow distribution by Hanoi’s Department of Transport. The sooner floating bridge will be built, the faster Duong bridge will be repaired,” added Tien.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi issued an official document on May 11, stating that the floating bridge is necessary for conducting traffic flow distribution during the time of Duong Bridge’s repair.
