Police work with people who are cheated by fake guest worker office.
Truong Hung from Binh Chau Commune, Quang Ngai, opened a food stall at the market with his wife for some money. Both of them want to be a guest worker overseas to find a better future. They were then introduced to the Korean S&B Guest Worker Consulting Centre Office. The VND16m (USD687) per person fee was considered cheap.
"We went to Hai Phong to complete the procedures. The office looked big and busy so we thought it had been granted business permit already. We lost a total of VND40m (USD1,700)," Hung said.
Nguyen Thi Thuong also from Binh Chau Commune does odd jobs to earn money and was also introduced to the office. She borrowed VND30m (USD1,200) for her and her husband to be guest workers in South Korea. However, they lost contact with the office afterwards and there was no feedback.
"I have to pay VND400,000 (USD17) in interest each month. We borrowed VND30m and spent VND10m more on transportation and other fees. Now we were unable to contact the office at all," she said.
The case was brought to the public since early September. Colonel Nguyen Hoanh from the Immigration Management Department said 13 victims are from Binh Chau Commune and Tinh Hoa Commune. Most of them went to the office after looking at online advertisements.
"They came to apply for a short-term employee visa," he said. "After searching the database, we couldn't find any Korean S&B Guest Worker Consulting Centre Office registered in the system."
The Immigration Management Department has worked with the police to raise public awareness about fraud. They also guided the victims on how to collect evidence and report the case to local police.
