Divers collect 130kg of waste from Cham Islands seabed

Staff members from the Cham Islands Marine Protected Area removed nearly 130kg of marine waste and 18 crown-of-thorns starfish during a cleanup on September 14.

The campaign covered coral reef sites at Hon La, Bai Bac, Bai Lang, Bai Xep, Bai Tra-Nan, and Hon Mo. Divers went tens of metres deep to collect debris, including abandoned fishing gear, broken nets, snorkeling equipment, bottles, cans, tires, and sacks.

Nearly 130kg of marine waste has been collected.

The crown-of-thorns starfish, which threaten coral reefs, were also removed.

The initiative, part of the “Clean Up the World 2025” campaign, aims to protect marine ecosystems and maintain environmental sanitation in the Cham Islands.
