The incident happened on December 25 at the intersection of Ly Tu Trong and Tran Phu streets in Hai Chau Ward, where the visitor accidentally dropped her phone into a narrow drainage opening while sightseeing and was unable to retrieve it.
Local police officers were dispatched to the scene. Using specialised equipment, they lifted the concrete cover and climbed into the drain to search for the device.
The phone was later recovered in working condition and returned to its owner.
The tourist expressed her gratitude, thanking the officers in both Vietnamese and English, and said she felt safe and warmly welcomed during her visit to Vietnam, police said.
