According to Danang authorities, torrential heavy rains over the past few days have submerged many areas.

By the evening of October 13, some streets in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward in Lien Chieu District, which is the lowest-lying area in the city, were over a metre under water.

Local authorities had to help evacuate over 5,000 local residents who are mostly university students and workers at some factories in the area to ensure safety.

Speaking to the Vietnamnet Newspaper on Saturday evening, the chairman of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward People's Committee, Bui Trung Khanh, said that they had sent rescue forces to help move over 5,000 people living in deeply flooded areas on Me Suot, Hoang Van Thai streets to safe places.


"People have been arranged with temporary accommodation to wait until the floods recede," Khanh said. "We'll support them with food and some necessities."

The same night, the chairman of Danang City People's Committee, Le Trung Chinh also visited some flooded areas in Lien Chieu and Thanh Khe districts. Chinh asked local authorities to closely watch out for the flooding situation to evacuate people.

Many schools in the city had also closed on Friday afternoon as flood waters quickly rose.
