Environmental workers have been collecting dead fish. The fish were put in bags to be buried.

The dead fish have been scattered across different sections of the lake.

According to an environmental worker, he had never witnessed such massive fish deaths. Over the past two days, around 600 kilos of dead fish have been gathered, mostly carp and snakehead fish weighing 1-2 kilos each.

Over the past week, people who walk around Xuan Huong Lake have seen shoals of fish swim to the shore, apparently exhausted.

The hot weather and the rampant appearance of blue-green algae have been initially blamed for oxygen shortages that had resulted in the fish deaths.
Waste discharge into the lake has also worsened the pollution. Concerned agencies are checking the lake’s pollution level to take measures.
The strong development of blue-green algae has been an issue on Xuan Huong Lake for many years. Although some measures have been applied, including the use of specialist equipment to kill the algae, the situation has not improved much.
