A delegation of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese has collected complete information on the life of the overseas Vietnamese community and the Vietnamese language learning situation in Cambodia after a fact-finding tour of the country that concluded on May 16.
The six-day tour aims to put forward suitable proposals for the implementation of a pilot project to promote Vietnamese language learning in the overseas Vietnamese communities.
While in Cambodia, the delegation, led by Vu Binh, deputy head of the committee’s Culture and Information Department, held working sessions with representatives from the Vietnamese embassy, leaders of six schools and establishments teaching Vietnamese in Phnom Penh and the southern province of Kandal as well as the Director of the Phnom Penh Education, Young People and Tourism Service.
They also organised four training workshops on new Vietnamese language teaching methodology and community work for nearly 50 Vietnamese language teachers and members of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Cambodia.
Pham Van Thong, Vice President of the Vietnam Education Psychology and Science Association affirmed that the results of short-term training have not only encouraged Vietnamese expatriates in Cambodia but also brought them new knowledge on the value of the Vietnamese language teaching and learning.
Apart from Cambodia, the pilot project will be carried out in Laos, Russia, the Czech Republic, the US and Canada.
