Nghe An Province border guards discovered an opium poppy acreage of 400 square metres during a recent patrol.
The field was found by Nghe An Province border guards, in cooperation with Nhon Mai Commune (Tuong Duong District) authorities. They were routinely inspecting the area adjacent to Tham Nham Village of their commune and Pha Khom Village, Tri Le Commune (Que Phong District) when they unexpectedly came across a large opium poppy cultivation area, next to Tham Tham Village, that was 400 square metres in size.
After further investigation, the authorities identified this opium poppy plantation area to be the property of Mr. Moong Van Khoa (50 year-old), from Tham Tham Village, Nhon Mai Village.
The authorities then conducted a report and informed other villagers of Mr. Khoa’s illegal activities. Mr. Khoa has been ordered to remove all opium poppy plants from his land.
