The 6th annual CIO Summit & Awards end yesterday in Hanoi and have honoured 12 of the most outstanding Chief Information Officers (CIOs) in the Asean region.

All of the CIOs have demonstrated their excellence, achievement, and leadership in IT management, delivered great contributions and practical initiatives for the development of their organisation.

This year 2010 marks the chairmanship of Vietnam over ASEAN, the 1000 years old of Hanoi City, and the expansion of IDG Indochina to ASEAN region. This is also the first time the awards were given to candidates not only from Indochina but also the whole ASEAN region.

Candidates were selected based on 6 criteria of which their roles and influence in the success of IT projects were considered a priority. The 12 best CIOs are:

1. Do Vu Anh, director of Telecommunications Department, Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group (Vietnam)

12. Nguyen Van Vinh, chief of Hai Phong City’s Committee of the Party (Vietnam)

Featuring “The CIO’s Role – Re-enforce and Evolve”, the CIO Summit & Awards 2010 has brought together 1000 CIOs from around the globe, especially in the ASEAN region, to Hanoi to discuss issues CIOs and IT managers in the State, Government and private sectors are facing during the recovery period of the economy. There were also executive discussions which focused on the measurement of successful IT application, what IT takes to blossom potential CIOs; and especially the emergence of women CIOs.

This is an opportunity for CIOs from lesser-developed countries in the region to compete with their colleagues from more highly-developed countries, to see where they really are in the regional playing field. CIOs participating also had a unique opportunity to visit three organizations effectively applying IT in 2009 as case studies for better understanding of IT application in the host country of Vietnam.

The event is co-organized by the Vietnam National Steering Committee on ICT, the Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, IDG Vietnam, and CEO-CIO Club.
