Authorities in Lam Dong Province have moved to contain an outbreak of African swine fever at a household livestock farm after laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the disease.

According to local officials, the outbreak occurred at the farm of Mai Thanh Su in Dong Tien residential area, Dong Gia Nghia Ward. On June 16, the farmer reported that several pigs in his herd had developed symptoms including high fever, loss of appetite and skin haemorrhaging, while some animals had died.
An inspection by veterinary and local authorities found that the farm had a total of 40 pigs, of which 20 showed signs of illness. Test results later confirmed infection with African swine fever.
In response, the Dong Gia Nghia Ward People's Committee established a rapid response team to quarantine the affected area and cull the entire infected herd to prevent further transmission. By June 18, the containment measures and disposal of the infected animals had been largely completed.
Authorities are continuing to monitor nearby areas while carrying out cleaning, disinfection and disease prevention measures to reduce the risk of additional outbreaks.
Earlier this year, Lam Dong recorded a major African swine fever outbreak in Da Teh 3 Commune, where more than 10,000 pigs were culled to control the spread of the disease.
