Additional 5,155 new Covid-19 patients announced in Monday morning report

Vietnam recorded an additional 5,155 more Covid-19 infections in the past 12 hours, raising the total number of patients in the country to 215,560 , the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 5,140 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 2,349 in Ho Chi Minh City, 1,725 in Binh Duong, 287 in Long An, 183 in Dong Nai, 177 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 157 in Tay Ninh, 57 in Vinh Long, 37 in An Giang, 31 in Phu Yen, 27 in Can Tho, 19 in Kien Giang, 18 in Dong Thap, 17 in Thua Thien-Hue, 15 in Hau Giang, 14 in Gia Lai, 14 in Dak Nong, five in Hai Duong, four in Hanoi, and one each in Lao Cai, Son La, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau. Among these new infections, 786 cases were found in the communities. There were 15 imported patients recorded.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 3,898 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

As of Monday morning, 211,630 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 124,153 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Health, around 10,000 vials of Remdesivir have been distributed to 10 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City to treat Covid-19 patients starting from Sunday.The ministry has also allowed localities with high number of infection cases to quarantine and treat patients at home, using Tele-health.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 215,560 including 213,200 locally-transmitted cases.

On August 8, a total of 4,860 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 71,497.

On Sunday evening, a further 147 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 3,397.

The country has conducted over 9.40 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 945,806 people having received two doses.
