9 Vietnamese footballers banned from international competitions

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has suspended nine players of The Vissai Ninh Binh FC for their alleged engagement in an AFC Cup 2014 match-fixing scandal.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) received an AFC announcement on July 31 which says the ban will last till November 20, 2014.

The nine players are being detained for investigations. They are Nguyen Manh Dung, Tran Manh Dung, Chu Ngoc Anh, Le Quang Hung, Nguyen Xuan Phu, Phan Anh Tuan, Nguyen Van Hung, Le Van Duyet, and Nguyen Gia Tu.

The Investigation Agency of Ninh Binh province has transferred the case to the provincial People’s Procuracy, awaiting prosecution scheduled for August.

The nine players were detained for match fixing allegations in a recent Group C match between The Vissai Ninh Binh FC and Malaysia’s Kelantan FC.
