Coach Kim Sang-sik expects that Vietnam will advance to the final match of the coming ASEAN Cup following their progress during the recent training camp in the Republic of Korea.
While training in the RoK, the team underwent intense practice sessions and high-level matches. They subsequently defeated Ulsan Citizen 2-0, Deagu FC 2-0 and Jeonbuk Hyundai 3-1 in all three friendly games.
In this matches, Kim experimented with various lineups to evaluate the effectiveness of playing strategies in different positions and assess each player’s adaptability. Another key focus for the coach is improving the team’s game organization, maintaining balance, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
The coach is now raising fans’ expectations for the resurgence of key stars, with midfielder Quang Hai being a particularly anticipated name. The Hanoi Police FC captain consistently made a spectacular performance during the training camp, standing out with two goals and significant contributions to the team’s overall gameplay.
“I can see the players’ skills improving significantly, along with noticeable advancements in the team’s tactics and techniques,” said Kim.
Based on the players’ performances, he expected that the Vietnamese national team would fully harness their collective strength in the upcoming 2024 ASEAN Cup.
Coach and his players are scheduled to return to Vietnam on December 3 from the RoK training camp. Kim will call up several players of Nam Dinh FC before making a shortlist of 26 players for the national lineup at the regional football championship.
At the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Vietnam will play in Group B alongside Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos. They are scheduled to take on Laos on December 9, Indonesia on December 15, the Philippines on December 8 and Myanmar on December 21.
