According to the committee, since June 2017, enterprises have asked for the province’s permissions to build 15 solar power plants worth total capital of VNĐ15.4 trillion ($678.4 million). The projects have designed combined capacity of 554MW and will be implemented from 2017 to 2019.

The Miền Trung Energy Joint Stock Company wants to invest over VNĐ1.3 trillion ($57.2 million) in a 50MW solar power plant on 60ha around Dầu Tiếng Lake in Tân Châu District, while the Biên Hoa-Thanh Long One Member Liablity Ltd Co plans to build a 30MW solar power plant worth VNĐ736 billion ($32.38 million) on 37ha in Thành Long Commune in Châu Thành District.

The TTC Green Energy Joint Stock Company has registered to use over 110ha in An Hòa Commune, Tràng Bảng District, to build two solar power plants with combined capacity of 94MW, worth over VNĐ2.43 trillion ($106.92 million).

The Asia Polytechnic Co Ltd also wants to use 120ha near Dầu Tiếng Lake to build two solar power plants with combined capacity of 60MW, worth over VNĐ1.5 trillion ($66 million).

Nguyễn Thanh Ngọc, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said Tây Ninh has huge potential for solar power development with solar radiation reaching 5.1kWh/sq.m per day, and the average sunshine duration of 2,400 hours per year.

The above projects have been given the green light from the provincial People’s Committee but have not yet been added to the provincial planning scheme on electricity development in the 2011-15 period, with a vision through 2020.

That is why the province has asked for the MoIT’s approval to add the projects to the list to create a legal framework for them to be implemented.

The projects in extremely disadvantaged areas of Suối Ngô Commune in Tân Châu District and Thành Long Commune in Châu Thành District are eligible for investment incentives.
