A delegation of officials from Quang Tri Provincial Natural Resources and Environment, Police and Forest Ranger Department recently conducted several checks at the Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve and discovered the situation.
Between October 25 and November 15, the delegation conducted four checks and found 36 large old trees had been cut down in this tightly protected forest.
A big tree of 90 centimetres in diameter and over 30 metres long had just been felled and left in the forest.
Many other trees have been cut into pieces and brought to a nearby stream.
Local authorities have zoned off the area for investigation.
