According to a report from local authorities, some households in Dinh Son Commune visited their fish ponds at 11 am on November 19 to find that many fish had died. They collected 1.3 tonnes of dead fish from four ponds using the same water source and found some pesticide packaging.
The households informed the police, who arrived to collect the water samples for investigation.
Following the initial investigation, police also detained a local man suspected of putting pesticides into the ponds, causing the fish deaths.
One of the households said that most of their fish were carp and perch, which are about to be harvested in two months.
