After the discovery, local authorities stopped the upgrading work and placed the remains in new coffins. The remains are currently kept on the street and are awaiting relocation.
According to Ha Anh Tuan, vice chairman of the Dong Da District People’s Committee, the local authorities have contacted Phung Hung Funeral Home to transport the remains to Yen Ky Cemetery in the outskirts of Hanoi for reburial.
He added that this is not the first time human remains have been found in the area. Previously, many sets of unmarked remains were discovered whenever infrastructure projects or house foundations were being dug.
The site where the drainage project in Alley 167 Tay Son is underway has been cordoned off to ensure public safety.
