Anh receives treatment at the National Institute of Burns' Intensive Care Ward
Following many days in a coma, Anh has regained consciousness. He feels the intense pain all over his tightly wrapped body even more acutely.
Anh's father, Le Van Tan, 63, said that on September 5, Anh came to a pond near his house to go fishing. Then, he faced violent winds and heavy rain. In an attempt to seek shelter, a fishing rod unluckily got entangled in a high-voltage power line, resulting in him being electrocuted.
"When being informed by some of my neighbours, I ran out to find him and discovered him lying unconscious on the ground," Tan recounted in tears.
Because of serious injuries, he was quickly moved to the National Institute of Burns in Hanoi.
Anh's pregnant wife was so shocked about his accident, causing her to go into labour earlier than expected. Their premature baby has been unwell since birth.
According to Tan, Anh is the primary breadwinner of the six-member family. He has tried to do various jobs to support the family.
The treatment for Anh has cost more than VND200 million (USD3.98 million), with the money borrowed from different sources.
Dr Hoang Van Vu from the Intensive Care Ward of the National Institute of Burns stated that 36 per cent of Anh's body had been burned, with 26 per cent severely hit. He had to undergo amputations of his right arm and leg to save his life. Meanwhile, his face and left leg are facing necrosis.
Vu, however, said that the patient still has a good chance of survival if aggressive treatment continues. If Anh can survive, he will need prosthetic limbs, which are quite costly. He hoped that donors could come together to help him.
