Vice chairman of the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee, Tran Bau, replied to VAPCO's proposal, saying that they would not agree to the company dumping mud into the sea due to environmental concerns.
The mud, which was taken from dredging activities at the company's plant construction, can be used for levelling activities
The USD2.20 billion Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant project is being built in Ky Anh Town with a capacity of 1,320MW.
Earlier in July 2023, VAPCO sent a proposal to Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee asking for a license to dump the waste mud over around 100 hectares some 22 kilometres from Ky Anh Town.
After consulting with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ha Tinh authorities have turned down the proposal, asking VAPCO to ensure the project's progress and strictly follow environmental protection regulations.
