Thousands of houses are flooded in Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province
At least four people died, and over 32,000 houses were deeply submerged by severe floods triggered by Storm Trami in the central province of Quang Binh as of the morning of October 30, local authorities have reported.
The deceased victims were all men aged between 21-60 who died after being swept away in the floods.
By 7 am on October 30, the water level at Kien Giang River was receding but remained high at 3.28 metres. And over 32,880 surrounding houses were submerged between 0.5-1.5 metres under water.
More than 9,100 households in the two districts of Le Thuy and Quang Ninh were still temporarily living elsewhere after being evacuated from their flooded homes.
Local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors to ensure safety while food and necessities are transported to them by boats.
The National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting forecasted that the central localities, including Quang Binh, would see less rain on October 30, with an average total rainfall falling between 20 and 50 mm. While flood water has receded in many areas, Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts may still face flooding for two or three more days.
According to local authorities, this was the most serious flood since 2020, when a historic flood submerged the whole of Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts for over 10 days, killing 25 people and causing an economic loss of over VND3.50 trillion.
