Economy class air tickets running out ahead of Tet

Economy class airfares on many domestic flights for the coming Tet Lunar New Year have almost sold out with remaining tickets at high prices.

According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority (CAAV), during the early holiday period from January 21 to January 28, bookings for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities are increasing and nearly fully booked.

Many routes have reported a booking rate of 90-100 percent, including the Hanoi-Buon Ma Thuot route and flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Buon Ma Thuot, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nha Trang, and Hue.

By the end of the Tet holiday, from January 30 to February 7, the occupancy rate on flights from various localities back to Ho Chi Minh City has remarkably increased.

The remaining airfares for many routes from Ho Chi Minh City to many cities and provinces are being sold at high rates.

Travel agencies report that airfares for Tet have increased by 10-15 percent compared to 2024, particularly on flights from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to popular tourist destinations, with ticket prices rising by VND1.7-2.6 million compared to Tet 2024.

On January 22, economy class tickets on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Hai Phong, and Thanh Hoa have risen by VND3.4-4 million. The largest jump is on the Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi route, reaching VND5.3 million per ticket.

However, ticket prices for flights from Buon Ma Thuot, Hue, Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, and other locations to Ho Chi Minh City before Tet have decreased due to low demand. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have both offered discounted fares on these routes between January 22 and January 27, starting from just VND90,000 per single ticket, excluding taxes and fees.
