More than 60 policemen have been mobilised to hunt two death-row inmates who have fled from a jail in Hanoi.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, Le Van Tho, 37, from Hai Duong Province and Nguyen Van Tinh, 28, from Hanoi’s Quoc Oai District, escaped from the T16 detention centre in Hanoi’s rural Thanh Oai District on the night of September 10.

The inmates were being held in solitary confinement at the facility awaiting execution.

They used a Honda Dream motorbike, with the number plate BKS 29X-2817, and wore helmets and masks while fleeing.

The police have issued a wanted notice for the two. Sixty Hanoi police have been assigned to the manhunt.

Tho was sentenced to the death in May for dealing in narcotics, murder, and theft. Earlier, he had convictions of murder, kidnapping for ransom, illegal use of military firearms, bribery, robbery, and theft.

Tinh received the death penalty by Hanoi People’s Court in April for his involvement in a narcotics ring.
