The 17th Vietnam Film Festival, scheduled in the central province of Phu Yen on December 14-17, is expected to attract about 1,000 delegates and 108 films, said Ngo Phuong Lan, vice chief of the Vietnam Cinema Agency and vice chief organizer of the festival.
The event is a part of activities to mark the 2011 National Tourism Year and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnamese film festivals, aims to select the best works from across the country and honor artists and filmmakers who have contributed to Vietnam\'s cinematographic history.
The opening ceremony will take place at 8pm, December 15 while the closing ceremony will be held at 8pm, December 17, and will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV).
Some 108 films of five categories - movies-videos, documentaries, scientific films and animations - will be screened at four cinemas. In addition, Vietnamese films that do not attend the festival but are favored by the audience will be screened at an outdoor screen at the 1-4 Square in Tuy Hoa city.
The festival will have four jury boards for feature films, scientific documentaries and cartoons. The jury members will be made public before the opening day.
