The chairman of the Dalat City People's Committee, Dang Quang Tu, requested the local police department and concerned agencies investigate possible scams targeting people booking hotel rooms in the city during the flower festival.
The move came after a rising number of people have complained about being cheated when booking hotel rooms in Dalat via some websites.
According to a victim who shared her story on an internet forum, she was swindled when booking some rooms during the Dalat Flower Festival 2024 from a man who set up fake fan pages for famous hotels. He asked her to pay a deposit. And after she sent the money to his bank account, he blocked her.
The committee advised people to double-check the information of the room or service providers carefully before sending money for a reservation or booking.
The committee has also asked local departments and agencies to co-operate with hotels and service providers in the area to find measures to curb this problem.
The 10th Dalat Flower Festival will be held in early December and is expected to attract over two million visitors.
The city currently has 3,178 hotels and guest houses with 40,644 rooms.
