Quang Tri fishermen rescue rare hawksbill turtle

Three fishermen in the central province of Quang Tri have rescued a rare hawksbill turtle.

On Wednesday evening, the fishermen Vo Van Lien, Tran Nhu Dung and Nguyen Xuan Lam, all from Vinh Thai Commune in Vinh Linh District cast their nets to fish in the local sea.

Suddenly, a hawksbill turtle became entangled in the net. The fishermen quickly brought it ashore.

The hawksbill sea turtle measured 80 cm in length, 54 cm in width, and weighed around 15 kg.

The Sea Turtle Conservation Volunteer Team in Vinh Thai Commune carried out rescue procedures, tagged the turtle with an identification code, and safely released it back into the wild.

Last week, a rare hawksbill sea turtle was found on a beach in the central city of Danang, suffering from severe injuries. After being informed by the Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV), the Sasa Marine Animal Rescue Team quickly came to rescue the animal.
