Over 45,000 illegal aquaculture cages in Ha Long Bay destroyed

More than 45,400 illegal aquaculture cages in Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh have been destroyed.

Thirty-eight households use these cages for illegal aquaculture activities in Ha Long Bay. Despite being repeatedly reminded to dismantle the cages, the households have refused to co-operate. Therefore, the Ha Long Bay Management Board co-ordinated with concerned agencies to confiscate and demolish the cages on December 10.

The illegal aquaculture cages in Ha Long Bay are confiscated and destroyed on December 10.

The Ha Long Bay Management Board also collected 45 cubic metres of waste from aquaculture rafts damaged by Typhoon Yagi in September, including foam buoys and bamboo debris.

The collection of cages and waste in Ha Long Bay took place over 10 days, from November 26 to December 6. This contributed to reducing floating debris that causes environmental pollution in the bay.

Quang Ninh was among the localities hardest hit by Typhoon Yagi.

Tourists previously complained that foam buoys from aquaculture farms drifting on Ha Long Bay have polluted the environment.
