The Nam Nom River is home to the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant, with its reservoir covering 5,000 hectares. The plant is vital in regulating water flows for agricultural production. The river has also provided a sustainable livelihood for its residents, who are farming fish.

Many areas in the central region witnessed heavy rain which caused widespread flooding and landslides in November.
