A forest fire spread in Quang Ninh Province on December 20.

The fire broke out at noon on December 19 at a forest in Bai Chay Ward where many pine and acacia trees are dying after being uprooted during the Typhoon Yagi in September. The dry weather and strong wind has caused the fire to spread fast.

Firefighters were sent to the site soon after that and worked through Thursday night and Friday morning. On Friday afternoon, more than 200 people are still trying to control the fire.

Earlier on December 17, two consecutive fires also occurred in two other pine and acacia forests in Ha Long City.

According to the Forest Protection Department, there are currently 59 areas facing forest fires in Quang Ninh and nine other localities in the northern region. People living near the forest are advised not to carry out activities that may cause fire.
