According to Dao Xuan Hien, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Management Board for Industrial and Civil Construction Investment Projects, some 90 hectares of mangrove forests have been planted in Ha Tinh since 2018, mostly in Thach Ha District, Ky Anh Town, and Ha Tinh City. However, a large forest area died just a short time after being planted.
"We've tried to study the causes and change our methods of growing, but the situation has not improved," Hien said. "In Ky Anh Town alone, over 40 hectares of mangrove forest have died since 2022."

In November this year, the Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Sciences and Technologies co-operated with the Centre for Nature Conservation and Development and experts officially announced the causes following their investigations in four forests in the area.
The investigations showed that the trees had been killed by 18 pests, with five species of crustacea being the main killers.
"The experts have proposed some solutions, including selecting more suitable types of trees for local forests that can avoid the pests and better adapt to the soil and weather conditions in the area," Hien said. "Some protection devices and ducks are also suggested to prevent the spread of pests."
