Le Thi Quynh, 32, in Quynh Luu District’s Quynh Yen Commune and her husband Bui Ngoc Ky, 41, married nine years ago and have two children. When Quynh gave birth to the second child, Ky was diagnosed with kidney failure. Since then, he has not been able to work and has mostly stayed at home.

Eight months ago, her mother-in-law died due to illness. He also faced mental problems. Meanwhile, her father-in-law, 81, has been bedridden for years due to a stroke.
Ky has experienced three operations because of kidney failure complications. Despite his right leg being amputated two months ago, the necrotic area has continued to spread, causing him great pain.Ho Viet Bo, Quynh’s neighbour, said Quynh worked as a cook at a local nursery school several years ago, but then she had to stop to look after her parents-in-law, husband and two small children aged six and seven.
Quynh has incurred a debt of VND300 million (USD12,244) spent to cover treatment for the family members.
