A fire occurred at an eucalyptus forest in Quang Ninh's Van Don District at 5pm on October 13. Local rescue forces worked through the night and managed to control it at around 1 am on October 14. The fire had burnt down over one hectare of the trees which had died after being rooted up during the Typhoon Yagi.

This was the second forest fire reported in Van Don in a week. Earlier on October 9-11, another large forest fire had burnt down over 10 hectares of forest here.

According to local authorities, Typhoon Yagi damaged around 117,000 hectares of forests in Quang Ninh, accounting for over 30 percent of existing forest areas here. Quang Ninh estimated over VND6.4 trillion in damage to its forestry caused by the typhoon.

The trees are now gradually dying, posing fire threats during the dry weather.

A month after Yagi, more than 10 fires have occurred and damaged over 60 hectares of forests in Quang Ninh.
