Hanoi road engulfed in rubbish

A section of the access road along Thang Long Avenue in Hanoi is choked with rubbish, turning it into a dumping site.

The section running through Song Phuong Commune in Hoai Duc District has recently become a dumping area.

The rubbish mostly consists of construction materials and household waste illegally dumped in the area at night.

"Every few days, when I go to the market early in the morning, I see a new heap of soil and stones dumped on the road. Large trucks quickly unload rubbish at scattered spots, making it challenging to catch them in the act,” said a local resident.

Areas that are out of sight like beneath overpasses are most plagued by rubbish.

The same situation is reported at Song Phuong Commune’s cemetery. Despite the signs prohibiting illegal dumping, waste is still discarded rampantly. Some individuals have even discharged debris, blocking the entrance to the cemetery.

Local authorities have set up patrol teams to tackle the issue, but the force is insufficient to effectively deter offenders.
