The Kitchen God's Day (Ong Cong Ong Tao) ceremony which takes place on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month. This year, it falls on Saturday, January 14.
Thuy Tram Village in Cam Khe District is well-known for red-carp breeding.
Local households are harvesting carps to sell them to traders. Red carp in Thuy Tram are brought to different localities in the country.
The red crap are often raised from June and July every year.
Ha Cong Ky, owner of a fish farm in Thuy Tram, said that his family has 30 years of experience in this work. His family are focusing on harvesting carp for the Kitchen Gods’ Day.
Around 10 households in the village specialise in raising red carp, Ky added. While many others do the work seasonally.
Oxygen is being pumped into a fish tank
Nguyen Danh Hien, a local resident, said that red carp prices are now at VND90,000 per kilo, lower than last year. If the situation does not improve, his family will incur losses.
Each household’s red carp productivity ranges from hundreds of kilos to tonnes.
While waiting for traders, households have to take care of the fish.
