Thanh Nga in HCM City said she was surprised to see more stalls selling durian at shockingly low prices.

"I dropped by a durian stall to buy the fruit the other day, and the owner told me that it was the main season, so the prices were really good thanks to abundant supplies," Nga said. "I decided to buy some three times cheaper than last month, and the quality was quite good."

Nga said some ripe fruits collected after falling from the trees were sold for VND30,000 each.

"I bought one fruit of this kind, but it does not taste so good," she said.

Phuong Anh in Hanoi's Dong Da District said she had just ordered three durian fruits from a farmer in Dak Lak Province's Facebook account.

"The seller said that lots of durian trees in her garden have begun to ripen while traders are not coming to collect them daily," Anh said. "She's conducted live streaming on Facebook and TikTok to sell the ripe fruits cheaply. I've brought the fruits from her several times and found that the quality is quite good."

Do Van Minh, a fruit stall owner in HCM City District 6, said that durian prices have sharply fallen as the Central Highlands region has entered the main harvesting season.

"We're having different prices depending on the varieties and quality of durian," Minh said. "The best fruits are sold between VND60,000 – 80,000 while some are priced at only VND15,000-20,000 per kilo. That's very cheap compared to last month's rates of up to VND150,000-200,000 per kilo.

Vietnam currently has some 151,000 ha of durian, with the Central Highlands region being the biggest hub at 75,500 ha, followed by the Mekong Delta region at 42,000 ha and the Southeast region at 25,000 ha.
