Rare serow trapped Nghe An forest rescued

A rare serow trapped in a protective forest in the central province of Nghe An Province's Tuong Duong District has been successfully rescued.

According to Nguyen Thanh Dung, head of the Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board, the animal was spotted at the forest’s sub-area 697 during a patrol on October 11. The patrol team discovered the male serow with its front left leg ensnared in a trap.

The rescue team swiftly used medical alcohol to disinfect the wound. After the treatment, the serow was released back into the wild.

Belonging to the Bovidae family and the even-toed ungulates order, the serow mainly live in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Indochinese region, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.

The serow is classified as an endangered and rare species in Group IB under the Vietnamese government’s Decree 06.
