Peach farmers in Hanoi's Phu Thuong and Nhat Tan wards have started planting young trees to replace those that have been damaged by serious floods triggered by the Typhoon Yagi.

Thousands of peach trees, which are being prepared for the coming 2025 Tet Lunar New Year Festival, have died from flooding after the storm.

Two weeks after the floodwaters receded, Nguyen Thi Thuy in Phu Thuong, is working hard to try to recover her gardens.

"We've lost all the peach trees on our 1,000-square-metre garden during the flood, with estimated losses of about VND200 million," Thuy shared. "Now we have to spend some VND50 million to prepare the soil for planting new trees which are also very costly to buy."

Thuy said that following the recent historic flood, they're now trying to invest more into flood prevention for their new gardens.

Another farmer, Do Van Loi in Nhat Tan Ward also lost 1,000 peach trees in the flood.

"The prices of young peach trees have tripled following the flood," Loi said. "Now we're growing the young trees and it may take at least one year for the trees to give flowers for sale.

Some farmers have decided to plant flowers that can be harvested during the coming Tet Lunar New Year Festival.
