The monthly tuition in Vietnamese public schools ranges between VND8,000-340,000 (USD0.33-14) per student, depending on education levels and areas. Five-year-old children and elementary students are exempted from tuition fees.

Four localities, including Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Haiphong, and Danang, have offered free education for public school students from preschool to high school.

Meanwhile, tertiary students pay tuition fees between VND2-25 million (USD82-1,026) monthly.

Statistics from the ministry showed that as of September 16, Typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding and landslides had damaged education infrastructure in 18 northern localities, valued at VND1.20 trillion (USD49.26 million). In addition, 41,600 sets of textbooks were destroyed by floods and landslides.

As many as 52 students and three teachers had died in the disaster, while some others were injured or remained missing. Up to 17 schools were ruined and needed to be rebuilt, and 99 others are still closed for repairs.

While some universities have provided support policies, including reducing tuition fees and offering scholarships or delayed payment for students in the typhoon-hit areas, the ministry said localities should also consider reducing or waiving fees for children at local schools.
