The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam held a meeting on Thursday to discuss responses to super typhoon Yagi, the strongest one to impact Vietnam's East Sea (South China Sea) in a decade.
Based on the 1pm weather forecast from the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting on September 5th regarding the impact of Typhoon No.3, it's recognised that this is a very strong storm with significant natural disaster risks and complex developments, with the potential to affect and threaten the safety of operations at airports.
Considering the storm's intensity and high level of disaster risk, after discussions and reports from various units, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Dinh Viet Thang, has ordered a temporary suspension of aircraft operations at four airports in Vietnam (three in the north, and one in the central region).
Specifically, Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh Province) will temporarily suspend aircraft operations from 4am to 4pm on September 7th.
Cát Bi International Airport (Haiphong City) will temporarily suspend aircraft operations from 5am to 4pm on September 7th.
Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi City) will suspend aircraft operations from 10am to 7pm on September 7th.
Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa Province) will suspend aircraft operations from 12pm to 10pm on September 7th.
The aviation authority has also instructed the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to provide appropriate aviation notifications in accordance with current regulations and ensure absolute safety in flight operations.
