Landslide on road linking Lai Chau and Dien Bien
A severe landslide has occurred on a road connecting the two northern mountainous provinces of Lai Chau and Dien Bien.
The incident happened early this morning, August 20, on National Road 4H, which runs through Mu Ca Commune in Lai Chau’s Muong Te District. This road links Muong Te and Muong Nhe District in Dien Bien.
Around 40,000 cubic metres of soil and stone have spilt onto a 150-metre road section, damaging roughly 70 metres of the road surface.
Traffic between Mu Ca Commune and other areas have been cut off.
According to Hoang Tien Quy, director of Lai Chau Road Maintenance Joint Stock Company, the case was reported to the provincial Department of Transport for solutions.
The firm are mobilising workers and equipment to clear the affected road section to ensure the traffic as soon as possible.
People in Muong Te can use roads 127 and 12 to Dien Bien instead.
