According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, flights from the country's two largest cities, Hanoi and HCM City, to some other localities currently have between 60-80 percent unoccupied seats during the period from June 15 to July 15.

Some routes to popular tourist sites are seeing higher demand. On June 14, the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route reported a booking rate of nearly 81 percent for flights departing on June 15 and 72.50 percent for those leaving on June 16. The Hanoi-Phu Quoc route saw approximately 75 percent of seats booked and Hanoi-Nha Trang nearly 74 percent booked for flights departing on June 15.

Local airlines have recently increased night and early morning flights with cheaper ticket prices, demonstrating their commitment to providing more options for passengers, even in the face of low demand.

Vietnam Airlines CEO Le Hong Ha said that roughly 10 percent of the carrier's night flights had been cancelled in May due to a lack of passengers.

According to Ha, passengers on night flights may incur an extra night of accommodation because hotel check-ins are not flexible. Transport options for nighttime travel are also inconvenient.

Night flights are more suitable for peak periods such as the Lunar New Year or Tet when people flock to return to their hometowns. Ha added that hotels should apply more flexible policies to facilitate night flights.

Meanwhile, prices to some famous tourist destinations remain high, especially during weekends. However, there is potential for significant cost savings during low-demand periods, making these times ideal for budget-conscious travellers.
