The final medal table at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
On the last day of competition at Tokyo 2020, China won 7 more medals, including three gold medals in athletics and badminton to officially claim top spot in the final medal table.
After 12 days of exciting competition, the Chinese team won a total of 207 medals of all kinds, including 96 golds, 60 silvers and 51 bronzes, far ahead of the rest of the teams.
This is the fifth time in a row that Team China has topped the overall medal tally in Paralympics, since Athens 2004. However, at Tokyo 2020, they were unable to replicate their achievement of surpassing 100 gold medals like at Rio 2016 (107 golds).
The British sports delegation continue to affirm their position in the Paralympic world with second place on the medal table, winning 41 golds, 38 silvers and 45 bronzes.
The medal race this year was more interesting as the positions from third to fifth continuously changed. On the final day of the Games, two gold medals in women's sitting volleyball and men's wheelchair basketball helped the US officially surpass the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) to finish in third place with 37 gold medals. exactly one more gold medal than the RPC who ranked fourth.
Hosts Japan successfully closed the Games by winning 3 more golds on the last day to rank 11th in the medal tally with 13 golds, 15 silvers and 23 bronzes. This is an encouraging achievement for the hosts as at Rio 2016, Japan won 24 medals but without any gold.
As for the Southeast Asian sports teams, on the last day, only the Indonesian team won a gold medal thanks to Oktila Leani Ratri and Susanto Hary in the badminton mixed doubles SL3-SU5. Oktila won silver on the same day after losing 2-1 to China’s Cheng Hefang in the women's singles badminton SL4.
Five Southeast Asian teams won medals from a total of 86 countries and territories on the podiums at Tokyo 2020 (62 teams won golds), of which Thailand ranked 25th in the final medal tally with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 8 bronzes; Malaysia ranked 39th with 3 golds and 2 silvers, Indonesia ranked 43rd with 2 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes, Singapore ranked 48 with 2 gold medals and Vietnam ranked 75th with 1 silver.
This can be considered a success for the Vietnamese disability sports contingent, considering both the difficulties in their preparations and the reality during the competition.
The Vietnamese delegation to the Tokyo 2020 consisted of 15 members, including 7 athletes competing in the 3 sports of swimming, powerlifting and athletics. They finished their competition with only one silver medal, won by Le Van Cong in the men's 49kg powerlifting on August 26. The Vietnamese team ranked 6th in three categories and ranked 7th in another type.
The Vietnamese delegation returned home on September 4.
Tonight, the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will start from 6pm (Vietnam time).
