The Ministry of Transport wants to conduct a pre-feasibility study of a USD10 billion railway project connecting HCM City and Can Tho City in the southern region of Vietnam.

According to the ministry the pre-feasibility study will be conducted by a consulting firm in the 2021-2022 period. Funding for the study will be sourced from the state budget.

The project’s specific planning was approved in 2013.

The train line, once operating, will help meet the demand for transporting cargo and passengers among localities in the southern region, and ease traffic congestion on roads.
