The recommendation recently sent to the Ministry of Transport is aimed to replace old signboards. New boards will meet with commitments of Great Mekong Sub-region Cross Border Transport Agreement that Vietnam has joined.

However, the directorate’s proposal has caused public concerns.

Nguyen Van Lung, a reader of Dantri/DTiNews, said, “It’s necessary to replace deteriorating traffic signboards, however, it is important to ensure they can be seen easily.”

He also added that currently too many signboards are put at corners which are quite difficult for people see, leading to their violations and fined by traffic police.

Another reader Vu Huy Thang said many T-sections don’t have signboards for turning and lane division. At peak hour, it is impossible for people to define which lane is for them, which easily leads to problems’.
