HCM City plans to build 42 parks along the Saigon River by 2025 and turn the riverside land into service, commercial, and tourism areas.

The HCM City People’s Committee has released a summary report on implementing the river embankment development and riverside service economy from 2020 to 2045.

According to the report, around 80 percent of the project’s work scheduled for the 2021-2025 phase has been completed.

In 2025-2030, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on reviewing riverside land resources and proposing investment incentives, policies, and plans to develop land reserves.

The city plans to construct 42 parks along the Saigon River to create multifunctional infrastructure, boost the service economy, and improve the landscape and biodiversity. The parks will be in Cu Chi, Binh Thanh, and Hoc Mon districts, as well as in Districts 1, 4, 7, and Thu Duc City.

In the near future, Ho Chi Minh City will invest in riverbank embankments and inland waterway ports.

The municipal Department of Planning and Architecture has co-operated with the local Department of Transport to conduct multiple surveys of the riverbanks for design and planning ideas.

The upgrade of Saigon River Park was finished early this year. The park includes a 600-metre-long pathway, numerous trees, various flowers, and lawns. It is the largest park in the city, with 13 facilities covering 20 hectares.
